see jill squat

I’ve decided to be less of a “share-y” person lately, so the blog is going dark. Not that I have posted much lately, but c’est la vie. Be well, stay strong.

Shove your knees out

A little bit of a reminder to myself and others - mobility matters.

Knee high love

So, I will preface this by saying I don’t usually link to stores or advertise in any way at all.

However, I’m taking a moment to pimp my friend V’s store in Montreal for her wonderful new selection of knee highs. These are the ones I plan to order, but I’m quite partial to the zombie ones too. They’re full of awesome.

My lifting progress, seven months in. Needless to say, coming from barely being able to lift an empty oly bar, I’m surprised and very proud of myself.
Bench is lagging behind the rest, but I’m doing accessory work to help that. Getting those dips, lat pulldowns and skullcrushers in on a regular basis!

Squats the 'worst' exercise?

liftstheweight:

Apparently the barbell squat is the worst exercise in existence. That’s right, we’ve all been doing it wrong. All the strength and mucle I’ve gained, it’s all a lie.

Wow. This guy deserves all the arguments and facts for the barbell squat to dispute his ridiculousness, so have at it.

Off to do some HORRIBLE, DANGEROUS, INJURY PRONE squats. :P

In summation: That sucked rotten eggs.

Since I followed the 5/3/1 to a T the first time through, I’m kind of wondering if I can go six weeks between deload cycles, or if that’s too long. From my preliminary research, deloads are typically 4-8 weeks apart.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Hit the ask box or reblog - I’d love to hear it.

Back to lifting MORE starting tomorrow.

This was the advice (verbatim) bestowed upon me by a Fitocracy member, when I asked about how to start dating:

#1 Find guy
#2 hit on head with olympic bar
#3 deadlift guy
#4 farmer’s walk back to Valkyrie den
#5 “other cardio”

All the single ladies, check out these fine bennies from weightlifting!

(Although I’m pretty sure steps 2-4 aren’t required…)

Iron and the Soul by Henry Rollins

leahlionheart:

“It wasn’t until my late twenties that I learned that by working out I had given myself a great gift. I learned that nothing good comes without work and a certain amount of pain. […] I used to fight the pain, but recently this became clear to me: pain is not my enemy; it is my call to greatness.
[…]
Muscle mass does not always equal strength. Strength is kindness and sensitivity. Strength is understanding that your power is both physical and emotional. That it comes from the body and the mind. And the heart.”

Sometimes, you have to leave the iron behind and trade it for fresh air.

Six common training mistakes

Been there, done that. A good refresher on what to (and not to do) in weight training.
